Description

Released in January 1993, “Fifty Mission Cap” honoured the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 1951 Stanley Cup Championship team and Bill Barilko’s famous Stanley Cup winning goal. This frame features a printed version of Gord’s handwritten lyrics to “Fifty-Mission Cap” along with a silver album and exclusive photo collage approved by the band. The Toronto Maple Leafs and The Tragically Hip are inexorably linked by the song. Bill Barilko famously “Won the Leafs the Cup” with the “Last goal he ever scored” on April 21st, 1951. 4 months after the goal Bill vanished and his disappearance was unknown. Eleven years passed before the mystery of Bill’s disappearance was finally solved. Coincidentally, it was also eleven years later when the Toronto Maple Leafs finally won the Stanley Cup again. This inspired Gord’s lyric “They didn’t win another until 1962, the year he was discovered.” This frame commemorates the song and the unbelievable history behind the lyrics. Fifty Mission Cap brought Toronto and Canada together to remember the life and history of Bill Barilko. The song was originally released as a single in 1993 as a part of the band’s third full-length album, “Fully Completely”. The album was certified Diamond in Canada in January 2007 for sales of over 1,000,000 copies. This item is officially licensed by The Tragically Hip. Professional framed in Canada. Comes ready to hang. Frame Size: 27×39.
